We are living in a time where the world is changing at a rapid pace. With these changes, there is also an urge to do things differently. From making conscious choices about food, clothing, and travel, to choosing an alternative career and learning pathways, we have become a lot more open and curious.
However, there is a dearth of learning spaces and communities supporting individuals and families to sustain these alternative routes. In most cases, alternative spaces are limited to those who live in cities and can pay higher fees.
In Tiruvannamalai, the spiritual heart of South India, we have set out to build Recenter, a space for alternatives – A space that could be used by everyone irrespective of their age, educational background, and economic status; a space where learning and living coexist; a space rooted in regeneration and spirituality.
Who will be benefitted?
- Young adults living in villages in and around Tiruvannamalai
- Women and children who do not have access to a learning space in their villages
- Families who would like an anchor to transition into an alternate way of living-earning-learning.
What are our offerings?
We would like to build two different spaces – a learning space and accommodation (or dorms) for travel families.
Space 1: Build a self-designed learning space. A space that children and adults could use together to pursue their interests, explore new ideas, and work with mentors to learn a specific skill, and the like. It would be about a 1000 sq.ft, built space, fit to accommodate about 20 individuals at a given point in time.
Host family retreats. A sacred space curated for families to deepen their bonds, and review their values, relationships, and communication methods, intended to bring harmony in the family, in oneself, and eventually with the external world. This would include space for a maximum of 5 families to stay at a given point in time, including a community kitchen.
- Construction February – June 2023
- Community mobilization, sensitization, and awareness campaigns March – June 2023
- Learning space inauguration15 July 2023
Through Recenter we hope to create a world that is just, fair, humane, thriving, and kind – the world we want to leave behind for our children and the following generations. We hope you would also like your children to grow up in a world like this. Please remember any small amount you would donate would take us a long way in manifesting our dream. We also welcome non-monetary contributions, should you wish to make one, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We send much gratitude your way for staying with our story, reading it this far, and showering your kindness on us.
